Book Review: Best Offer Wins

Book: Best Offer Wins

Author: Marisa Kashino

Thank you so much, Celadon Books and NetGalley, for an eARC in exchange for my honest review.

I had high hopes for this one, especially with the enthralling description. However, it was tough to look past the actions of the main character, Margo Miyake.

Margo was a publicist living in the Washington, DC area in a tiny apartment with her husband. She was on a hunt for the perfect house in the suburbs after being outbid so many times. On top of that, she really wants a baby, and she will basically do anything to get the perfect life for herself.

I found Margo really unlikeable, which I am not sure is supposed to be the case. The description says I would be rooting for her. However, she had no redeeming qualities. She had no growth; I did not even get to a point where I felt bad for her, let alone root for her throughout the story.

I saw it was described as dark humor; however, I couldn’t find anything funny about it. Margo’s actions and thoughts so put me off from stalking the owners of current houses to murder. It was really hard to continue the story. I got up to close to 40% and didn’t care to find out what happened in the end.

Final Score 2/5
