Book Review: The Other Couple

Book: The Other Couple

Author: Claire McGowan

Thank you, NetGalley and Brilliance Publishing, for an advanced audio copy.

The Other Couple is a thriller that follows multiple POVs, multiple timelines, and multiple crimes. With so many variables, I would have really expected this to be a confusing mess, but it wasn’t. It was a well-crafted thriller that, despite having many threads, never even got remotely confusing.

Beth and Vince are on vacation, and a woman is found dead. Vince is initially a suspect but is later let go. On this same trip, there was a pregnant detective and another couple who both lived in the same place as Beth and Vince. The detective, Alison, cannot disconnect from work, and even on vacation, she tries to solve the case.

I thought this was a story I had figured out. I thought I knew who committed the murder, and I thought I figured out all the twists. I did not. Although one major plot point could not have been figured out, everything else I thought I knew, I was wrong.

This book made me confident in my detective abilities, only to show me how wrong I was, and I really enjoyed that. This is a fun thriller that should be on everyone’s shortlist.

Final Score: 4/5
