Thank you Atria Books for an eARC!
Yet another winner by Kayla Olson! I absolutely loved The Lodge, so I was very excited to read The Great Outdoors, and I loved it so much that she is now an auto-buy author for me!
The story follows Sadie, who goes on a two-week hiking adventure in the wilderness. She signed up to prove to her ex-boyfriend that she is not high-maintenance, as he thinks she is.
Sadie has never been hiking before or even spent a day in the wilderness, so she did exactly what I would do: overpack! You can’t be too prepared. When she arrives at the meeting point, she meets Thorn, who is the co-leader leading them through this wilderness adventure. He knows this hike like the back of his hand, so he knows the best spots!
I felt fully immersed in this story. I couldn’t put the book down because I kept wanting to know what would happen next on this adventure.
Seeing Sadie and Thorn’s friendship blossom into something more is great. I loved how supportive he was of her. But my favorite part of this story was seeing Sadie’s growth and self-discovery of who she is. You find yourself rooting for her the entire way through. I felt so proud of her and what she accomplished.
And the side characters in the hiking group did have their own drama, but I liked the found-family vibes it gave as the trip went on.
I am certainly not a wilderness person, and I absolutely loved this book! This is a must-read!
Final Score 5/5
