This one was exactly what I needed.
Don’t Say A Word follows Kate, a woman who married her abusive husband Max for one reason, to protect his teenage daughter Holly. When Holly kills Max in self-defense, Kate’s instinct is to protect her at all costs. But before she can figure out what to do, their new neighbor Teri gets hurt in an accident and ends up in their spare room. Just for a day, Kate tells herself. Except Teri has no intention of leaving.
I would call this thriller comfort food and I mean that in the best possible way. It does not try to reinvent the genre or hit you with some wild twist you never saw coming. It just delivers exactly what you want, a tense story with a creepy neighbor situation that keeps getting worse with every page.
Sometimes that is all you need from a book. Sanders kept me turning pages and I was genuinely invested in Kate and Holly the whole way through.
If you are a fan of domestic thrillers and just want a solid, satisfying read, this one absolutely delivers.
Final score: 4/5
