Book: Santa Maybe
Author: Hazel Henry
Thank you, NetGalley and Harper Audio, for an advanced audio copy.
This one was a tough read for me to review because I genuinely hate being negative about books.
Santa Maybe follows three sisters, Daisy, Georgia and Eden, over the two weeks leading up to Christmas, told through each of their points of view. The concept is charming enough but the execution left a lot to be desired. Jumping between all three perspectives made the story feel scattered and unfocused, and with not much plot holding things together it was hard to stay invested in any of the storylines.
The other thing that really threw me off was the amount of sexual content throughout. This is marketed as a young adult book that content felt completely out of place for that audience. It puts the book in a really confusing category and I kept asking myself who exactly this was written for.
I came away wanting more from every aspect of it. More story, more character development, more clarity on what it was actually trying to be.
Not every book is going to be for everyone and this one just was not for me.
Final Score: 2/5
