Book Review: Wish You Weren’t Here

Book: Wish You Weren’t Here

Author: Christy Schillig

Happy pub day to the re-release of Wish You Weren’t Here! Thank you @christy for all the adorable goodies!

This story follows Ava Graham as she heads to Urbino, Italy, to complete the final credits she needs for law school while also hoping to fulfill a promise she made to her late mother. Before leaving, Ava is expecting a proposal from her long-term boyfriend. Instead, he surprises her by suggesting they treat her time in Italy as a break from their relationship.

Once in Italy, Ava meets James Massini, who has been tasked by his aunt and uncle with picking her up from the airport. Since Ava is staying with them during her time in Urbino, she and James find themselves butting heads almost immediately. Despite their differences, once James really started to get to know her, he becomes determined to help Ava realize that there is more to life than lists and mapped-out plans.

I loved watching their relationship evolve as they began to understand one another and explore more of Italy together.

Christy made it so easy to visualize Italy. From the charming atmosphere and delicious food and wine to the sense of found family woven throughout the story, every detail felt immersive.

I also really enjoyed the storyline involving Ava’s late mother and her deep connection to Urbino. The way her life intertwined added an emotional layer to the novel and made it feel as though Ava’s journey to Italy was truly meant to be.

Overall, this was a heartwarming story filled with romance and self-discovery all while in beautiful Italy.

Final Score 5/5
