Heir of Blood and Moonlight is a great opening to a series I’m excited to go back to. The main character is a vampire queen named Sophie. Everything takes place in a normal Earth setting, so I’m excited to see where this goes because the character building was great.
Sophie is a likable main character, and then there is a group of men and her son that become part of her found family. The plot has me interested, and the drama and action were great, but that really did take a back seat to the spice.
Personally, I don’t mind spice in my stories, but I feel like the plot was often at war with the spice. I wanted Sophie and Gavin to go out and fight some shifters, but instead, they had to ruin chocolate for me for the taste descriptors for Gavin’s blood…. Thanks for that.
This was my first vampire book in well over a decade, so it was fresh and new to me. I didn’t enjoy every moment, but I enjoyed the majority. I’m excited for book two.
