I was not prepared for how much this one was going to put me through before it warmed my heart.
Cozy Little Christmas follows Hannah, a music therapist in the small town of Shelter Springs who has sworn off love after being left behind by her first love years ago. When Wes comes back to town to recover from a knife attack that left both him and his K9 partner Kodiak wounded, the walls Hannah has built around herself start to crumble.
What caught me off guard was how much emotional weight this book carries early on. Cancer, an amputation, a parent’s death. I was not ready for all of those hits coming at me in the beginning. Thayne does not shy away from the hard stuff.
But here is the thing. Despite all of that, or maybe because of it, the story ends up being genuinely feel good. Once it finds its stride it has all the warmth of a Hallmark movie in the best possible way. The town of Shelter Springs, the matchmaking seniors, the holiday magic of it all really got me into the Christmas spirit.
Thayne knows exactly what she is doing and she delivers it beautifully.
Final Score: 4/5
