Book Review: Summer State of Mind

Book: Summer State of Mine

Author: Kristy Woodson Harvey

Thank you to Gallery Books and NetGalley for an eARC in exchange for my honest review.

There is something about Kristy’s writing that immediately draws you in. I immediately got so invested in the characters.

The story follows Daisy, who is a NICU nurse who came to Cape Carolina for a fresh start. However, she chose there for a specific reason that we learn more about as the story unfolds. One of the first few days on the job, a baseball coach for the local high school, Mason, and his star player, Drew, come into the hospital with a baby they found in the dumpster.

Mason can’t stop thinking about the baby and the nurse Daisy, so he asks her out. I really liked their relationship and seeing it bloom. Daisy gets very attached to the baby and wants nothing but the best for her, even if it means fostering her until she can be adopted.

To add another layer, Mason has a big family, and we get to meet them all, and I loved them all, especially quirky Aunt Tilley, who was one of my favorite characters in the whole book. I absolutely loved Daisy’s story and watching her let go of her past to have a second chance at life and love. I know I mentioned Mason has a big family, and we met them all. I was never once lost or confused by anyone.

This story is filled with drama and secrets, but it is also a beautiful tale of found family and second chances for many of the characters.

Final Score: 5/5
