Book: The May House
Author: Jillian Cantor
Thank you, Atria Books, and NetGalley for an eARC!
Trigger warning: This book touches on miscarriage, so please proceed with caution.
The story follows three sisters who stay with their Grandma Vera the last week of May every year since they were kids. They lost their mother very young, so Grandma Vera wanted to ensure that they always kept in touch with one another. When Grandma Vera passes, the sisters keep the grandma’s promise of always coming back to the beach house every May. That is, until one year, when Julia (the planner) doesn’t show up. She didn’t contact anyone to let them know where she was. This starts to unfold a lot of things from the past with the sisters.
We go through the decades and learn all about their lives. They each had so much going on, from relationships to children to job changes. I was so invested in each of the characters’ lives. Including their neighbor Nate, who was a constant in each of their lives, which I loved.
I couldn’t put this book down. There are many tearful moments (so have tissues nearby), but this is a story that will stay with me for a while.
This is a must-add to your summer reading list!
