I went into this one not really knowing what to expect, and I came out very pleasantly surprised.
The Anatomy of Magic is a fantasy romantic adventure which is not a typical book I would check out. The world-building is rich without being overwhelming. Menard does a great job pulling you into this world and making it feel real without drowning you in lore dumps. It was very much appreciated.
The romance was slow-burn in the best way. I loved watching the dynamic between the two leads develop naturally. It never felt forced, and the tension was palpable. The romance is what intrigues me about book two.
The magic system is genuinely interesting and felt unique to this story. Outside of comics, I have never seen magic siphoned through an object like it was here. I loved how it was woven into the plot rather than just being a backdrop. It actually mattered and had consequences, which I always appreciate.
I am absolutely continuing this series. The ending left me wanting more, and I am already curious about where Menard will take these characters next.
