This one had me hooked from the very first page.
The Lawyer’s Husband follows a defense attorney whose world starts to unravel when she begins to suspect that the man she married may not be who she thought he was. The tagline on the cover says it all — the killer isn’t in the courtroom. He’s in your marriage. That alone should tell you what kind of ride you are in for.
What I loved most about this book was how the tension just kept building. James does a great job of making you second-guess everything right along with the main character. Every time I thought I had it figured out, something shifted. I love it when a thriller can actually do that.
The courtroom elements really added a really interesting layer to the story. These story beats made it more than your typical thriller.
I do think there were a few moments in the middle where I wanted just a little more momentum, which is the only reason I’m not giving this a full five stars. But the back half more than made up for it.
If you are a fan of thrillers that keep you guessing, this one is absolutely worth your time.
Final Score: 4/5
