Book Review: The Country Road Murders

Book: The Country Road Murders

Author: James Patterson and Mike Lupica

Thank you, NetGalley, and Hachette Audio for an advanced audio copy.

The Country Road Murders features James Patterson’s signature short-chapter structure, which I love. It makes all of his books so easy to get into. The Country Road Murders started out with a bang and gripped me until the end.

The Story follows Silas Tucker, a local football legend whose career ended after an accident that should have killed him. Being back in his hometown of Cross Rivers, he has other problems besides not being able to play football. Young girls are going missing, and there is a horrible drug problem. All signs point to the Crockett family, who are basically like the Southern Mafia.

I really liked this story but very early on it felt familiar. I kept trying to think what it felt like, and then the book told me. Silas starts fighting back against the mafia, and they reference Walking Tall. That’s exactly what this feels like. That’s not really a bad thing since Walking Tall was a good story it was just weird to openly tell the reader you just like it.

This was an action-packed thriller that rarely hit the brakes. I know not every book needs a twist, but I did find myself looking for one here that never came. It was disappointing but not disappointing enough to ruin my experience.

This action thriller is definitely one I will be recommending.

Final score: 4/5
