This one went darker than I was expecting and I mean that as a compliment.

The Girl in Green follows Jess, a girl who has spent most of her life bouncing between detention centers and special schools, always looking for the next exit. When she lands a scholarship at the prestigious Danvers-Cutteridge school tucked in the mountains of West Virginia, she assumes it will be more of the same. What she finds instead is a school hiding something deeply unsettling beneath its grand reputation, including a missing student and whispers of a legendary monster lurking under the mountain.

The atmosphere here is genuinely creepy and the dark history of Danvers-Cutteridge builds in a way that kept me mostly engaged throughout. Jess is a compelling main character and I appreciated that she is not your typical horror protagonist.

There are some slower stretches in the middle where the pacing drags a little, but Creedle pulls things back together. My main issue is that the ending just did not land for me personally. I think a lot of readers will love where it goes, it just was not quite what I was hoping for.

Still a solid YA horror read with a lot of genuinely unnerving moments.
